1. Change Your DNS Settings

Your college's default DNS server is likely slow. Switch to Google DNS (8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) in your network adapter settings.

2. Force 5GHz Band

If your hostel router is dual-band, force your laptop to connect to 5GHz. It has shorter range but much higher speeds and less interference from microwaves or bluetooth.

3. The "Flush DNS" Command

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and type ipconfig /flushdns. This clears out old, corrupted cache that might be slowing down page loads.

4. Use a LAN Cable (Ethernet)

If your room has a wall port, use it! A CAT-6 cable is always faster and more stable than Wi-Fi, reducing ping in games by up to 50%.

5. Disable Background Apps

Check Steam, Windows Updates, or OneDrive. They often gobble up bandwidth in the background. Pause them while you work.

6. Update Network Drivers

Go to Device Manager > Network Adapters. If your Intel or Realtek drivers are from 2023, update them immediately for better stability.

7. Change Power Plan Settings

Windows sometimes puts your Wi-Fi card to "sleep" to save battery. Go to Power Options > Wireless Adapter Settings and set it to Maximum Performance.

8. Avoid Signal Blockers

Don't hide your laptop behind metal books, mirrors, or fish tanks. Metal blocks Wi-Fi signals almost completely.

9. Use a Browser Extension (Like Ours)

Frequent disconnections happen because the "Session Timeout" expires. AutoWifi automatically renews this session so you don't lose connection mid-download.

10. Scan for Malware

If internet is slow ONLY on your laptop, you might have crypto-mining malware running in the background. Run a Malwarebytes scan.
